Juniors’ chance of open glory

Junior golf is hotting up this summer at Tudor Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club in Bearsted.
With a new golf pro joining the team in the form of experienced coach Robin McGarr, the club have been able to extend their junior holiday camps.
McGarr and fellow golf pro Jason Muller, will now be hosting the golf camps for five to 16-yearolds every weekday from 9am until noon until September 2.
As well as providing tuition, fun games and competitions for beginners and those hoping to improve their game, the duo will also be talent spotting.
They hope to choose the four best players from the summer camps to enter the regional European Junior Open at Tudor Park on Thursday, September 1.
The qualifiers (the top two boys and one girl) from the Kent regional contest will play in the champions week finals in Spain in November.
“It is an exciting time to be joining Tudor Park,” says McGarr, 43, who has coached golf around the world for the past 26 years, including Russia, Bulgaria, Saudi Arabia and France.
“We already have a large number of young players but by hosting summer camps and junior contests, we are hoping to make Tudor Park a centre of excellence for junior golf.”
At the summer camps, more experienced, golfers will play nine holes each day with tuition followed by a competition. Younger, less experienced, golfers have tuition on the range and then competitions on the course.

Matt Ford reached the last 32 at the Paul Lawrie Matchplay in Scotland last weekend.
The Bearsted golfer won 17,000 euros (about £14,600).
He’s 127th in the Race to Dubai, needing to finish in the top 110 to keep his European Tour card.
The Nevill Golf Club in Tunbridge Wells are hosting a fundraiser in support of the Silverlining brain injury charity.
It takes place on Monday (2pm) with entry £ 50 per player or £180 for a team of four, including food.
