We can handle the pressure

- By Mark Stokes

Kent’s squad has proved they can handle the pressure when it matters, according to head coach Jimmy Adams.

Sam Northeast’s side are just one point off the top of the Specsavers County Championship Division 2 after wrapping up a 10-wicket win against Worcestershire at the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence last Saturday.

Three successive wins in the Royal London One-Day Cup have set up a quarterfinal tie with Yorkshire at Canterbury on Thursday, and head coach Adams says the players are ready for one last push.

He said: “The boys are all happy with the way things have gone, what with the good results in 50-over cricket and then the championship win against Worcestershire which was a real team performance.

“It’s all credit to them. They’ve worked hard to get where we are.

“They’ve handled the pressure well and it’s particularly good to see them come through in must-win situations.

“All season we’ve been a happy camp and importantly they are all a year older and wiser and are keen now to take things a few steps further.

“The good thing is that they have never stopped believing in themselves.”

Kent’s players will have a few days off before they meet Yorkshire – a game that can’t come quickly enough.

He added: “The last two months have been pretty manic, both physically and mentally but the boys are looking forward to the Yorkshire game.

“We’re happy to still be involved in two competitions and they know we now just need one more big push.”

Supporters are reminded that the Yorkshire game is all-ticket and so far more than half of the 6,000 tickets have been sold.

Advance prices are £ 20 for adults and £1 for under16s but gate prices will rise to £ 30 adults and £10 for youngsters.
