Entertainm­ent will be by the newly formed drama group and there will be some fun games or time for a chat. Hopefully, the weather will be fine and the event can held outdoors. To enhance the feeling of summer picnic times, there will be scones with jam and cream during the evening. There will be the usual bring and buy stall and the competitio­n will be for any item beginning with the letter X. Do you know about the Aylesford Active Retirement Associatio­n? It’s a group that meets monthly in Aylesford and might just provide you with the opportunit­y to make new friends, explore new interests or just looking for something to do. They will hold their summer meeting on Thursday, August 25 at 2.30pm in the Aylesford Community Centre. There will be a fun bingo session with cash prizes to be won. London to Paris: Heart of Kent Hospice is offering cyclists the experience of riding between two of the world’s most iconic cities – London and Paris from September 9-13. This charity bike ride will take you through beautiful English villages and into the stunning countrysid­e of rural France . You will pass historical landmarks and famous battlefiel­ds of the First World War until you reach Paris, undoubtedl­y one of the most magical cities on earth. You can hear many topics from the suffragett­es to the history of Mote Park; from The Great Exhibition of 1851 to Tales of Dickens in Kent. Next month’s meeting will welcome Imogen Corrigan talking on The Glories of Anglo-Saxon England. By joining the society now you can take advantage of a discount. Joint membership (including children under 18 living at the same address) is normally £17.50 while £10 is charged for single membership but, if paid by the end of this month these are cut to £15 and £8 respective­ly. The first hour is devoted to eating with a talk by the Rev Matthew Buchan about his experience as an auxiliary RAF chaplain. A £2 donation is suggested. Church circle: Coming soon will be the annual ride ‘n’ stride fundraiser when cyclists and walkers are urged to visit as many churches as possible during the day (Saturday, September 10). Apart from the moving participan­ts, the event involves volunteers at each church and, of course, sponsors. The resulting cash raised is split between the ‘home’ church and other Kent churches which may well have
