Cameron strolls to 5k success
South of England Young Athletes Championships
Medway & Maidstone AC were well represented at the South of England Young Athletes Championships at the weekend.
Titles were hard to come by for Medway but there was still plenty of encouragement for the athletes in action at the Julie Rose Stadium in Ashford.
Cameron Corbishley took the under-20 5km walk in 21min57.86sec while Jack Childs claimed the under-15 3km walk honours in 17.18.44.
Lauren Farley finished sixth in the under-15 girls’ long jump with 4.92m.
Isaac Milham finished fourth in the under-17 400m hurdles. The Steven Munday-trained athlete timed 57.60, a quarter of a second off third place, while the pace of the under-17 steeplechase proved too quick for Quinn Austin, who was sixth in 4.57.74.
Natasha Scott made it through her heat to finish seventh in the under-17 girls’ 80m hurdles. She produced a personal best 12.18 in the final, improving on her time of 12.32 in the heats.
Ben Hughes was eighth in the under-15 1,500m. His time of 4.39.36 was nearly three seconds slower than in the heats, when he finished sixth, while Hamish Reilly (4.52.90) was knocked out in his heat.
In the under-15 girls’ 75m hurdles, Lucy Maunders missed out on a place in the final after finishing sixth in the heats with a time of 12.86.
