Snodland’s winning start

Southern Counties East League

-

Snodland Town made a 2-1 winning start to life in Southern Counties East League, Division 1 last Saturday.

It needed a great save by Snodland keeper Dan Stevens to keep the scores level in the hosts’ first game at this level.

Snodland took the lead on 36 minutes when a Reece Gillies corner was met by the head of captain James Beaumont. His initial header was saved but Beaumont reacted quickest to turn home the rebound.

SC Thamesmead levelled in the second half when Josh Patrick scored a deserved equaliser.

But Snodland never gave up and substitute Lennie Laker’s through ball set up man-of-thematch Aaron Chilies who took one touch before firing home.

first-half goals for Sam Jones and a second-half Dan Powell effort saw Snodland beaten 3- 0 at Rusthall on Wednesday night.

Snodland host Meridian tomorrow (Saturday).

Substitute Josh West rescued a point for K Sports last weekend. He scored a secondhalf equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Bridon Ropes. K Sports have no game on Saturday. Premier Division Bearsted have one point from their first two matches. They were edged out 1- 0 at Rochester on Wednesday night, having drawn 1-1 at home to Croydon last Saturday.

Andy Irvine shot wide for Bears against Croydon after getting on the end of a Charlie Epps long throw-in before Bradley Webb had a goal disallowed for a foul.

Bearsted lost Rob Lyall to a knee injury and were grateful to keeper Scott Andrews for keeping out James Fray.

Croydon went ahead 10 minutes into the second half when Fray scored. However, Bearsted hit back and won a spot-kick when Sam Flisher was tripped in the box.

Bradley Webb scored the penalty and the hosts nearly snatched a late winner but Connor Cox fired over.

Bearsted host Fisher this Saturday at Honey Lane. Bearsted: S Andrews (Lee), West, Foster, Lyall (Naessens), G Andrews, Bartrum, Holliday, Epps (Cox), Webb, Irvine, Flisher. Sub not used: Naessens.

Bearsted under-18s, who play in Division 1 of the Maidstone Minor League, require players for the coming season. Contact Nick Terry on 07900 996848 or email N.Terry@ sky.com.
