Ward election next month
A by-election is set to be held next month after the death of a councillor.
Cllr Dave Sargeant died after suffering a heart attack in May and leaves a vacancy in Shepway South ward.
The 77-year-old of Westmoreland Road, Shepway, was the first member of Ukip to be elected to the council in 2014 and later became leader of the group.
His main interests had been to protect play areas and provide more facilities for young people in his ward.
One of his political rivals, Lib Dem Councillor Dave Naghi, paid tribute, describing him as a real, honest and genuine man.
The date set for the election is Thursday, September 8. The candidates are: John Arned (Ukip), Milden Choongo (Lib Dem), John Hicks (independent), Bob Hinder (Con), Dan Wilkinson (Lab).
