Dog poo bin is left full for a fortnight

Residents complain about ‘hazardous’ eyesore

An overflowing dog waste bin became an eyesore for Grove Green residents.

Bags of scooped-up poo were left spilling out onto the path at Provender Way for a fortnight.

Not only was the bin full to capacity, there was a growing number of bags placed around it on the ground.

Residents complained to Maidstone Borough Council, asking for the ‘hazard’ to be removed as soon as possible.

The bin had been plastered with signs to warn people of the danger, reading “health hazard, this has been reported TWICE. Still nothing done!!”.

One resident took to Twitter to publicly air her qualms to the council.

She added that the bin, which was cleared two days after the Kent Messenger contacted the authority, is not the only issue on the estate, which is the duty of the borough council. As pre- viously reported in the KM, the authority recently announced it will be phasing out its 354 dog waste bins, expecting to save close to £20,000.

All bagged dog waste can now be deposited in a standard litter bin, or residents’ own wheelie bins, which will prevent MBC from having to make separate collections.

A council spokesman said in advance of the Grove Green clean-up: “We can confirm that this is an isolated case, it has been reported and will be emptied.

“Most dog waste bins are emptied weekly, but in busy locations this can increase to two or three times a week.

“Occasionally some bins fill up between collections and when this happens we’re grateful to residents for alerting us. As long as it’s bagged, dog waste can be disposed of in any bin.”
