Top marks for charity’s work with victims of crime
A quality mark has been given to a Maidstone charity which has pioneered restorative justice through victim and offender mediation back in the 1990s.
Maidstone Mediation has had its dedication acknowledged with the award of a Restorative Justice Quality Mark by the Restorative Justice Council. The mediators have been able to offer restorative justice to hundreds of victims from offences such as shoplifting to rape.
The process can take weeks of preparation, ensuring the victim feels safe to proceed while making sure the perpetrator is truly remorseful and wants to make amends.
The quality mark recognises the high standards of care taken.
Restorative justice gives the person who has been harmed a chance to have their say and for the harmer to be held accountable and be given the chance to make good.
Today, the Victims Code states that all victims of crime should have access to restorative justice if they seek it.
