“What a summer it’s been. What hasn’t happened? Since embarking on my internship it seems like the entire democratic process has been simultaneo­usly battered and bruised whilst also getting stronger.

“My work in the office has helped me develop many valuable skills. These include writing formal letters and emails, working under pressure while still ensuring a high quality of work and drasticall­y improving my time management skills.

“Arguably the biggest UK political event in a generation unfolded as the referendum result became apparent. Watching the fallout within the office made me question the effects both globally and locally, particular­ly when hundreds of constituen­ts emailed Helen voicing their concerns. In fact, the sheer number of emails and letters received surprised me, from local matters such as bin collection­s to those of national importance.
