Litter wardens? Daylight robbery!

-

I very much agree with Alfie Smedley (KM letters, August 19) who wrote about litter wardens.

The whole thing is just a moneymaking scam, just like wheel clamping was before it was outlawed.

I witnessed an incident in Sainsbury’s car park where somebody was accused of dropping a cash point receipt which had been left behind by a previous user. This is nothing short of daylight robbery.

I am so disgusted Sainsbury’s has allowed these vultures onto its premises I will be doing my shopping elsewhere in the future. Mr A.J. Beedell Egerton Road, Maidstone.

I would just like to reply to the comments from Jennifer Shepherd, of Maidstone Borough Council, to my letter of August 19 about litter wardens.

Jennifer Shepherd stated the council works with landowners to reduce litter on their land. Well, if the council is so keen to help these landowners keep their land tidy, I am surprised she does not think warning notices advising that council litter wardens patrol the private land are not a good idea.

These would be deterrent, helping to keep the site tidy 24/7 and not just when a litter warden is in the area, but I guess again the council is not interested in any deterrents at all, as being able to fine as many people as possible is a good little money-spinner, for both the council and the commission-only paid enforcement contractor.
