lester.gosbee@btinternet.com On August 24, Gravesend, recorded the highest UK temperature(so far) this year with 33.9C (93.02F). The same day West Malling reached 33.8C (92.84F). We are now into Autumn, and signs look favourable for Kent with warm spells for the next 10 days, but cooler this weekend. Today (Friday): There will be much more cloud than we have had in recent days. It will be much fresher with the possibility of a local light shower. Winds will be south westerly at 5-10mph with temperatures at 21C (70F), possibly slightly higher at 22C(72F) over Thanet. Tomorrow (Saturday): A very similar day with only a 10% chance of showers, and if you get one, it will be slightly heavier than Friday’s showers. There will be some sunny spells at times. Winds will be south westerly at 6-11mph with temperatures at 21C(70F). Sunday: Another fairly overcast day, but there will again be some brightness at times, but also the risk of local showers. Having said that, many places will remain dry. Winds will be again from the south west at 6-13mph, a bit on the breezy side. Temperatures around 21C (70F). Monday to Thursday: High pressure will be in charge, and we will get more sunshine than we had at the weekend. It will turn warm in the afternoon sunshine, with some afternoons reaching temperatures of 23-25C (7377F). There will also be some foggy mornings - known as ‘hop picking mornings’ to country folk. There are tropical storms in the Atlantic, which could get in the jet stream later in the week, bringing wind and rain in Cumbria northwards, and the risk of thundery weather for us. It will still be good holiday weather in Kent. Sea temperatures are at 17C (62.6F), too cold for me. Winds will be light and southerly or south easterly.
