Defeat leaves Mote promotion outsiders

-

The Mote are promotion outsiders going into the final day after losing at Sandwich.

Victory would have sent Alex Fordham’s side into the top two with a game to play but instead it’s Sandwich who sit second.

The Mote, who slipped to fifth, must beat leaders Holmesdale at home tomorrow (Saturday) and hope Sandwich, Canterbury and HSBC slip up in order to be promoted as runners-up.

Matt White (3- 43) reduced Sandwich to 20-2 while Tom Harvey claimed 5-37 as the hosts were out for 221.

Sandwich bowlers proved hard to get away in reply, with The Mote 192 all out in reply and beaten by 29 runs.

Leeds & Broomfield went fifth in Division 3 with victory at Old Elthamians.

Daniel Creasy (38) top scored while No.8 George Davis added 32 not out as Leeds closed on 197- 8.

They won by 20 runs with Neil Dibben taking 5- 44 as Old Elthamians were bowled out for 177. Offham beat their neighbours Addington Village by 26 runs in their Division 4 derby. Ben Gittings made 45 in Offham’s total of 185 all out, Adam Dooley (4-34) and Harry Grinstead (3- 68) the main wickettakers. Andy Cox removed three of Addington’s top four on his way to 5-54 as the reply was restricted to 159-9. In 2nd XI action, The Mote were bowled out for 139 in a seven-wicket defeat by Division 1 champions Tenterden. In Division 4, Addington Village slipped to 87 all out against Rainham and were beaten by six wickets. Gary Evans’ century proved in vain as Offham lost off the penultimate ball. The opener made 112 while Neil Willis hit 81 as Offham reached 257-5 in a Division 5 game against a High Halstow side who squeezed home by one wicket.
