School celebratio­ns: The school’s 40th anniversar­y celebratio­ns on Saturday, September 24, are at the forefront of everyone’s minds as the countdown to the big day begins. The Bishop of Rochester will be rededicati­ng the building in a brief opening ceremony and we will also be pleased to welcome the Mayor of Tonbridge & Malling. The school will be full of past and present pupils and parents, former headteache­rs, governors and vicars and is grateful for the community support and interest that has already been generated. Evergreens is a club for retired people, which meets on the second Tuesday of each month from 2.30-4.30pm in the WI Hall, Forge Lane. At the next meeting on September 13, there will be a speaker from CROP (Citizens Rights for Older People) who will stay to answer any questions you may have. WI: The Farleighs WI meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7pm in the WI hall, Forge Lane. Little Angels: Little Angels start meetings on Friday, September 9 from 1-2.30pm at All Saints. This group for toddlers and their parents/guardians/carers meet every Friday during term time. If you would like informatio­n contact Becky on 07949 646865. Ride and Stride: Peter Baggott and Stephen Norman are taking part in the annual Ride and Stride for Churches on Saturday, September 10. Half the money they raise will go to All Saints and the rest to a central fund to help maintain the beautiful churches of Kent. If you can spare an hour, call Sue O’Donnell on 01622 727852 to sign up. Harvest Supper: The village Harvest Supper will be on Saturday September 24 at 7pm at All Saints. There is no quiz this year but Pete and Co will be back with popular music to suit all tastes. The group will play two sets with The Great Thrombosie in between. There will be an extensive buffet with fresh salmon, ham, smoked turkey, quiches, cheese board and various salads followed by Terry Ayears’ famous apple pies with cream. A bar will be provided for your wine and soft drinks for which donations are welcomed. Tickets cost £10 each and can be reserved from Jacky on 0778843383­5 or Terry and Ann on 01622 814561. The event sold out last year so don’t delay booking your ticket. IT scam warning: Following a recent change to a broadband supplier and a visit from an Open Reach engineer to install a new line, a resident received calls from people claiming to work for BT Open Reach and saying that the new broadband needed to be “tested”. The “test” began by asking for ‘tracert 8.8.8’ to be run on the computer. This is the first step in hacking into your computer. Warning. Never let a stranger tell you what to type into your computer unless you are absolutely certain who they are. PARISH COUNCIL: Parish picnic. The parish council is holding its annual picnic and apple picking day on Sunday, September 11 from 3-7pm at The Fen. Take a picnic and there will be drinks and a barbecue provided. Medway Valley Countrysid­e Partnershi­p will be crushing apples on site and visitors should take a plastic milk bottle if they would like some to take home. Visitors will be able to go pond dipping or walking and to visit the resident cattle and sheep. Take proof of residency. Details from the clerk to the parish council on 01622 814134. Baptist dates: The church will be open for the sponsored Ride ‘n’ Stride event in aid of Kent Churches from 10am-6pm on Saturday, September 10. On Sunday, September 11 at 10.30am, Baptist morning service will feature visiting speaker Terry Le Quesne. Holy Communion will be taken and Sunday School will be open for the youngsters. On Thursday, September 15 at 10.30am, the Chat-a-While coffee and craft morning will be held. All are welcome. Village Voices: After a successful performanc­e at the GamBLE picnic in late August, Village Voices meet again on Thursday, September 15 at 7.30-9pm in the school hall. Now they are working towards the GamBLE Singfest which will take place in the church on Saturday and Sunday, November 19-20. Little Fishes: A new term of Little Fishes starts on Monday, September 12 from 2-3pm in church. If you have babies or toddlers whom you would like to learn to play and share with other young children, bring them along. The children enjoy a story, an activity, some music and a healthy snack, while the parents and carers enjoy tea and a chat. Village Pensioners’ Club: Join thec Club when it next meets on Tuesday, September 13 from 2-4pm at the Social Club off the High Street. All senior citizens are welcome to join in bingo, chat and refreshmen­ts. WI produce show: On Tuesday, September 13 at 7pm at the village hall, the WI will be holding its annual produce show. There are cups and prizes for vegetables, flowers, cookery, craft, and flower arranging. The annual craft fair is on Saturday, October 26 from 10am-3pm at the village hall. If you wish to have a stall there, contact Mary Jakes on 01892 730344. Church fete: Just a quick reminder that the fete starts at 1pm on Saturday, September 10 in the church grounds. Stalls, tombola, games, a raffle, and refreshmen­ts plus of course the teddy bear parachute jump from the church tower. Sponsor forms at the post office. Body conditioni­ng: On Tuesday, September 13 at 8pm, a free trial class for total body conditioni­ng takes place at Wateringbu­ry Village Hall. No need to book, just turn up on the night.
