Mum follows her dreams with a gift for business

A new mum has found a way of being able to care full time for her daughter and keep her independence.

Laura Buchanan has founded her own company making and marketing gifts and keepsakes, which she runs from her home in Ware Street, Bearsted.

She formerly worked in marketing for a big corporation in London, but decided to go it alone after giving birth to daughter Esme in March last year.

Mrs Buchanan said: “It was a big step to leave my stable job and follow my passion and skills for craft and design, but there is such a growing demand for high-quality keepsakes that people can give as gifts or buy for themselves.”

Her firm Two Green Lane preserves precious finger, hand, foot or paw prints in silver.

The process of making the jewellery requires skill and Mrs Buchanan attended training classes to perfect the art.

She said: “The beauty of running a craft business from home is that I have been able to train and work flexibly around my one-year-old and practise making the jewellery in the evenings when she is in bed.

“It’s been a long road getting everything set up and having the website designed and so on.

“I am really pleased with the outcome and can’t wait to get started on orders I have from my website and Facebook page.”

The 33-year-old named her business Two Green Lane in memory of her late grandmother who lived at No 2, Green Lane, in a little village in Bedfordshire.

She said: “She was an incredible lady who was so selfless and loved by everyone who knew her.

“She inspired me to follow my dreams and be brave and bold.

“Since setting up Two Green Lane I haven’t looked back. Every day is different and I feel blessed to be doing something that I have so much passion for.”
