All ages are welcome to complete one or more circuits of 4.5 km each. The fun cycle costs £5 per person and starts at 10am. For full details visit www.hokh.org. The more adventurou­s can take part in either a 100km, 65km or 38mm chip-timed circular route – see website for details. HOKH Walk 25: Do you like a challenge? Would be prepared to take on a 25K sponsored walk through the Kent countrysid­e to celebrate 25 years of compassion­ate care from Heart of Kent Hospice? Then why not do the Walk 25 on Sunday, October 9 starting at Teston Bridge country park. Registrati­on is from 8.30-10am and it’s £25 to enter. The entrance fee includes plenty of refreshmen­t stops, a hot lunch, a finishers medal, tea and cake at the finish and of course, free parking close to the start /finish. If you’re not up to a 25k walk, a 15k option is also available. As is a led option but numbers per group will be limited and must be booked. There is no minimum sponsorshi­p required but in celebratio­n of its 25th anniversar­y and to enable it to continue to provide exceptiona­l care to patients and families, the hospice is challengin­g you to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorshi­p. Raise mroe than £250 and you will be entered into a prize draw to win an Osprey 30 litre unisex rucksack. Six to eight players per table are asked to provide their own food and drinks (nibbles will be supplied). Entry costs £6 with doors open at 7.15pm ready for a 7.30pm start. Call Val on 07876 194375 or Phil on 07876 256235 to book your place. Gosh I’m bored: You often hear those words but one way to overcome that is to talk with other people. Barming residents are especially well-placed because the hospital is in need of volunteers. Imagine being bed-bound for long periods. There is no television – that avoids the arguments that can occur over which channel to watch – so books (remember them?) come into their own. Visiting the wards on a weekly basis with the book or the sweet trolley brings contact with the patients who are usually grateful and, of course, the League of Friends shop needs to be staffed and the League uses any profits to benefit patients that can be any one of us.
