Duo celebrate county double

There was double success for two Medway & Maidstone AC athletes at the Kent County Under-13 Championsh­ips last weekend. Michael Uzozie enjoyed a sprint double at Erith stadium, while Zara Obamakinwa took two field titles. Uzozie raced to victory in the 100m in 13.23sec and followed it up with 200m success in 26.39, winning the final by more than a second. Obamakinwa’s success came in the shot (9.41m) and discus (26.22) – the latter event saw Gypsy Nash finish second in 25.35. Nash was victorious in the hammer with 25.25, Medway team-mate Summer Salter taking third with 20.38. Jermain Kevill won the long jump with 5.11, Uzozie recording 4.91 to take third. Katie Stringer (13min21.83sec) took the honours in the 2,000m walk with Billie Rouse third in the 1,200m in 4.14.83. Martin Brockman won nine out of 10 events on his way to winning the senior men’s decathlon title at the Kent Combined Events Championsh­ips at the same venue. Brockman’s season-best points tally of 7,213 was down on previous years but he still finished more than 1,000 clear of Dartford Harriers’ Thomas Howlett. Ashleigh West took the under-17 women’s heptathlon title with a score of 3,836, while George Blake (pictured) came second in the men’s under-17 octathlon with a personalbe­st tally of 4,152. There was also Medway & Maidstone success at the Kent Veterans/Masters Championsh­ips at Erith. Fiona Argent took W60 200m and 80m hurdles honours – a feat matched by Robert Sibley in the M60 100m hurdles and triple jump. Stephen Hesketh claimed two second places in the same age group at the 400m and 800m. In the M50 long jump, Paul Newton took first place with seconds for Adrian Donnelly (M40 800m) and Neill Wright (M40 1,500m) while Marco Ronchetti was third in the M40 100m.
