Kent Messenger Maidstone

Injuries mount up but no excuses, says boss

MAIDSTONE BROMLEY

-

Report: Pictures: minutes and was sharply off his line to stop the same man around the 20-minute mark.

Bromley’s Dave Martin was getting so much space wide left and made Maidstone pay as the visitors went in front on 25 minutes.

He was picked out again and after Worgan parried his effort, Porter was there to stab home the loose ball.

Bromley missed a glorious chance to double their lead, Tobi Sho-Silva simply not anticipating Porter’s header back across goal.

Maidstone, with only four substitutes, replaced Bobby-Joe Taylor with Ben Greenhalgh at the break and within five minutes had to make another change as Anthony Acheampong, battling a hamstring problem, came on for the injured Kevin Lokko.

Acheampong was expected to be out until this weekend at least and on 56 minutes gifted possession to Sho-Silva who went through and fired into the top corner to add a second goal for the visitors. Maidstone: Worgan, Hall- Johnson, Mavila, Coyle, Lokko ( Acheampong 50mins), Sweeney, Murphy ( May 58mins), Paxman, Flisher, Enver- Marum, Taylor ( Greenhalgh 46mins). Subs not used: Rogers. Attendance: 2,358. It was a day to forget for Jay Saunders as Maidstone lost their Kent derby against Bromley. The visitors dominated from start to finish at the Gallagher, with Stones dropping a place to 13th in the National League. Left-back Tom Mills was ruled out with a rib injury hours before the game. Stones were already missing Jack Richards (concussion) while Kevin Lokko (hip) went off injured early in the second half. Boss Saunders, who felt it was his side’s worst performance of the season, said: “Millsy took a whack on his ribs in training about two or three weeks ago and he’s played on with it. “At work he’s felt something go a bit and had to go to hospital for an X-ray, which was a bit of a blow. “We lost Jack Richards to concussion, then we’ve lost Lokko (during the game) and Millsy. “It’s just been one of those days, a day I want to sweep under the carpet and move on. “I’ve just said to them, you can’t make excuses, Bromley were the better side. We’ve not performed on the night, we’ve not worked hard enough and that’s unlike us. “We haven’t got going and that’s the long and short of it.” Anthony Acheampong, himself nursing a hamstring problem, had to take Lokko’s place. Saunders said:”He wouldn’t have even been on the bench to be honest. “We couldn’t fill the bench so it was a case where I had to put him on. I was trying to think of different ways of not doing it but I didn’t have much choice.”
