Kent Messenger Maidstone

Club Class nights were held at many of the ‘lost’ nightclubs of Maidstone, which many people still remember fondly.

Atomics was based in Hart Street, where flats at Kingfisher Meadow now stand. It was founded in 1991 by well-known DJ Mick Clark who converted an old warehouse into a nightclub.

Top DJs graced the decks every weekend including Boy George, Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold and Judge Jules.

Club Class began there in 1997, but the venue closed after 11 years.

Ikon opened in Barker Road at the end of 1998, and was best known for euphoric, uplifting trance sessions on a Saturday night.

In under 10 years, it was split in two and became Liquid and Envy, with Liquid offering dance tracks and Envy providing chart tunes and a bit of indie.

The building later became Wonderland in 2012, and is now a trampoline park.

The final venue to host Club Class was the Loft, which held nights by Hed Kandi with Pete Tong also playing there.
