Fundraiser that’s really smashing!

- Words by Natalie Tipping Pictures by Matthew Walker

Staff, pupils and friends took part in some wacky fun over the weekend, raising £1,200 in the process.

Invicta Grammar School holds a fair each year to raise money for its parent and teacher association, the Friends of Invicta Grammar School, and money goes back into improving facilities at the Huntsman Lane site.

The money is set to double thanks to sponsorship from banking group Santander and it has not yet been decided what to spend it on.

More than 200 people went along to the fair on Saturday and there were 18 stalls.

Activities on offer included welly wanging, guess the weight of the pug and crockery smashing.

Kim Stafford, assistant head at the school, said: “We are really grateful for the support we were given by the staff and students.

“Martin Colver, the Friends chairman, rallied a large number of parents, who came and helped on the day with setting up, keeping the stalls running and clearing up at the end. We are very thankful to those people as well.”
