lester.gosbee@btinternet.com More records are in for September. Gravesend reached 34.4C (95.92F), and was our warmest September day since 1911. It was also our first month since 1954 that a September day has been the hottest day of the year. Also it was the first time since 1929 that there have been three consecutive days with temperatures reaching 30C (86F) or higher in September. The Central England Temperature for the first half of the month was 15.5C (59.90F), warmer than June, July and August. Having said that, normality has resumed this week. Today (Friday): We have now got longer nights than days, because the autumn equinox was on Thursday. High pressure will cling on, and there will be a lot of cloud at times, but also plenty of bright spells in between. Winds will be south westerly at 8-12mph with temperatures at 19 - 20C (66-68F). Tomorrow (Saturday): Another day with just the outside chance of a shower locally, and some bright spells, but mostly a lot of cloud for the day. Winds will be westerly at 8-18mph, quite breezy. Temperatures will be at 20C (68F), above average. Sunday: A dry, overcast start to the day, then a weak front will cross our region, bringing a few hours of light rain, clearing late in the day. There may be some brightness before the sun sets. Winds will be lighter and westerly at 5-12mph with temperatures at 18C (64F), average. It will be a chilly night with temperatures as low as 7C (45F) in the countryside. Monday to Thursday: The lions’ share of the fine weather will be with us. It will be good most of the time for gathering the harvest. There will be short spells of rain, but also some good spells of sunshine. There will be the odd warmer day with temperatures up to 22C (72F) on Tuesday. Most days will reach temperatures of 20C (68F). Winds will be southerly to south westerly. There will be the odd chilly morning, and mist cannot be ruled out.
