Goudhurst’s Jake Hill scored his best-ever finish in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone on Sunday, writes Dan Wright.

The Toyota Avensis racer, 22, finished seventh on the road in race one but was lifted to a career-high fifth when both MG drivers were excluded from the results post-race.

Hill – who races for the Stroodbased Team HARD squad – could only finish 27th in race two following a puncture but bounced back to cross the line 14th in race three.

He said: “Overall it has been a superb weekend. As always, the boys on my car have worked so hard and have been brilliant throughout.

“The car was mega in race one and I had some fantastic battles, especially with Matt Neal.

“I was happy with finishing seventh but to then earn my best-ever result was unbelievable.”

Hill was on course for a strong eighth-place finish in race two before contact with current champion Gordon Shedden punctured his rear left tyre.

The BRDC rising star was forced to pit to fix the damage but put in an impressive performance in race three to score more championship points.

Hill said: “I had some good fights with different people but I was running the soft option tyre in race three and making up 13 places was a pretty good result.

“We head to Brands Hatch next to race on the Grand Prix circuit which is my favourite track. I can’t wait.”

Motorbase Performance drivers Mat Jackson and Andrew Jordan remained in contention for this year’s drivers’ title after a solid weekend at Silverstone.

Former champion Jordan now sits sixth in the standings after scoring his second win of the season in race two and a second-place finish in race one. He finished eighth in race three.

Jackson bounced back from a disappointing qualifying to score 17th, sixth and second-place finishes.

The final three rounds of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship will be held at Brands Hatch on October 1-2.
