Young holds his own on big stage

Teenage golfer and Maidstone schoolboy George Young produced a superb performance at the England Schoolboy County Champion of Champions tournament. The Maplesdon Noakes School pupil was the youngest in the field for the prestigious England Golf under-18 event at Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire but was the picture of consistency, carding two rounds of eight-over 81 to finish 18th in a field of 28 – several of whom were England internationals. Year 11 pupil Young is a member at West Malling GC and fired a superb gross round of one-under-par 69 to win the Kent Junior Championship on his home course in July and also won the Kent Schools Championships earlier this year.
