A beloved pedigree pet could be the latest victim of a notorious cat killer.

Rosie, a two-year-old Bengal, was found dead with her tail removed at the base just 200m from her home in Sutton Road where she lived with her owner and four children.

The grim discovery was made last month by a neighbour, and the details have just been made public.

Rosie’s owner, who asked to remain anonymous, posted a tribute saying: “My dear Bengal cat, Rosie, was killed by some sick person.

“It was such a sad and sickening sight to see my poor baby girl in this sad and sorry state.

“She brought a lot of love and laughter into my life and I now have a massive empty void.

“I just hope this person is caught and justice will be served in one way or another.” Police are aware of the incident. When bodies of cats with heads, tails and legs missing started being discovered in the London borough of Croydon in 2014, many assumed one person was responsible and dubbed them the Croydon Cat Killer.

Scores of animals from a wider area have since been found with similar fatal injuries, including foxes and rabbits, leading to the culprit being re-named the M25 Animal Killer or UK Cat Killer.

In July, a 15-year-old cat was discovered with its head missing. Then a Tovil resident got in touch with the Messenger to say their cat, Ella, had been found decapitated in a play park in Albert Reed Gardens.

South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty (SNARL), which is working with the RSPCA and the police on the investigation, said it could not confirm Rosie was killed by the same person without doing a post-mortem on her.
