11-plus scores don’t add up

-

A publication error has been blamed for leaving more than a thousand parents confused about their children’s 11-plus results.

The results of the Medway Test were emailed or posted on Friday, with Year 6 pupils needing to score 513 to pass and go on to grammar school. But for 1,300 pupils their overall score did not match the total of the individual scores listed – which could make the difference between a pass and a fail.

Medway Council apologised for the error which saw the wrong extended writing score printed, and said the total score is correct for all candidates. The problem only affected pupils who had not passed.

More than 3,000 children sat the Medway Test at the beginning of September. People were ‘run down like bowling pins’ when a Mini at a gathering of car enthusiasts ploughed into a group of bystanders.

Around 15 people were injured in the accident on the Medway City Estate last Friday night.

Witnesses said the weekly gathering of car enthusiasts ended in disaster with people “run down like bowling pins” on the industrial estate in Strood.

Four men, aged between 20 and 50, were taken to a London hospital with serious injuries. All remain in a critical condition. Four were treated at the scene.

Melissa Attree, 18, was saved from injury when her boyfriend pushed her out of the way.

Her dad, Russ, added: “She doesn’t remember the incident, she was knocked out. She’s home now but has slight concussion, whiplash and is a bit bruised.”

An 18- year- old man from Eltham, arrested in connection with the incident, has been released on police bail until November 14 pending further enquiries.
