lester.gosbee@btinternet.com September was a very dry month, with just 8mm/ 0.32 inches of rain for the whole month in Frittenden, just 8% of average. Our driest September was 2014, when we had just 5mm. It was also a very warm month, the second warmest on record with a Central England Temperature of 16C (60.08F). The warmest on record was 2006 with a CET of 16.8C (62.24F). Records go back to 1659. October 1 was wet with 8mm/ 0.32 inches of rain, as much as the whole of September in one day. It was the wettest day in Frittenden since August 2. October is Frittenden’s wettest month with an average of 86mm/ 3.44 inches of rain. Having said that, there won’t be much rain in the coming week, but it will be chilly. Today (Friday): We have had a run of sunny, breezy days, but there will be more cloud throughout the day today, but there will also be some sunshine. There will be a chilly easterly breeze of 20mph, stronger on the east coast. Temperatures will be at 15C (59F). The average is 17C (62.60F). Tomorrow (Saturday): It will be rather overcast, with even the possibility of a light local shower. There will be a few sunny spells and the easterly breeze will be a little less prominent at 12-18mph near the east Kent coast. Temperatures will be at 14C (57F). Some of you may want to put your central heating on. Sunday: A very similar day to Saturday, but there may be a few more local showers about. Most of us will see the sun at times. There will be an easterly breeze of 10-15mph with temperatures at 14C (57F) at best. Monday to Thursday: The Scandinavian anticyclone will influence our weather throughout the week, but weak low pressure systems will form at times to give showers and short spells of rain. Most days will get a few sunny spells. Winds will remain easterly, and the breeze should keep the frost away. Days will be chilly at 11-14C (52-57F). We have had a long run of above average temperatures, now we have got a run of below average temperatures. You could say that autumn has arrived.
