Weekend river walk: On Saturday October 8, Marden walking group will be visiting Collier Street church during the afternoon to see the Environmen­t Agency’s exhibition regarding local flooding issues and their reasons for abandoning the earlier plan of flood storage areas on the Rivers Beult and Teise. Flood protection challenge: The Joint Parish Flood Group (JPFG) meeting on September 30, set further actions in motion to challenge the Environmen­t Agency decision to abandon plans for flood storage areas on the Beult and Teise. In addition the JPFG is expressing concerns about the inefficien­cies of individual property level protection and do not consider this acceptable as the only option currently supported by the EA. The JPFG is grateful for the continuing support of MP Helen Grant and MBC member Steve McCloughli­n. Now it is important that residents support the work of the JPFG by going along to the Environmen­t Agency’s exhibition­s in St Margaret’s church. There is still time to get there and express your opinion on Friday October 7 from 2-8pm or on Saturday 8 from 10am-4pm. It is vital to challenge the decision not to try to reduce water levels in the area. Work morning: The Woodpecker­s churchyard tidying group managed to achieve a lot last Saturday between the showers. Leaves were cleared, grass was cut and verges mown. They also discussed plans to plant a new 30 metre hedgerow to border the graveyard extension. They hope to do that in November. Harvest Supper: A successful Harvest Supper was held in church on October 1. The pews were lined up to provide two beautifull­y decorated long tables for the diners to enjoy their hearty casserole and apple pie supper, followed by entertainm­ent from a brass band. WI: Yalding and District WI hold Pre-loved exhibition: The Riverside Gallery in Yalding has extended its summer season through October with an exhibition of art work. If you still have art work that you would like to sell, it is not too late. Just visit on the usual opening times of Monday, Thursday and Saturday from 2-5pm, with items to sell, or to see what is there and if anything catches your eye, you can make a sealed bid which June will open at the end of the month.
