Farewell after 34 years – and no days off

-

Thirty-four years, 10 head teachers and not a single day off – now finally Janet Hotson is taking a well-deserved rest.

The personal assistant to New Line Learning (NLL) Academy’s head bowed out on the last day of term last Friday.

Around 80 people were at a surprise farewell party at the school in Loose. Mrs Hotson was employed in 1982 as office manager at Oldborough Manor School, which merged with Senacre Technology College in 2007 to form NLL.

When asked what she will miss the most, the motherof-three said: “The people. I really have enjoyed working. It’s why I have stayed for so long but I’m looking forward to spending time with my family, gardening and travelling the world.” Head teacher David Elliott said: “Janet really is at the heart of NLL. She has been a trusted and well-respected colleague, a mother figure and a friend to many.”

Mrs Hotson, from Staplehurst, also served as Mayoress of Maidstone when her husband, Eric, a county councillor, was Mayor from 2010 to 2011.
