Nursery first in line to demonstrate first aid

-

First aid delivered quickly can be a life-saver. That’s why Pennies Day Nursery opened its doors at Newnham Court Shopping Village in Maidstone on Sunday to host a paediatric first-aid course for parents and staff.

The course was organised by the nursery’s development co-ordinator Sarah Stepney and first-aider Steve Thompson.

The centre is working towards gaining a Millie’s Mark, a kitemark award given by the Millie’s Trust charity once all staff are trained in paediatric first aid.

The charity was established in 2012 after a child died in a choking incident at a nursery. It aims to inspire parents to attend paediatric first-aid courses and to encourage excellence in firstaid care for those working with nursery-age children.

Miss Stepney said: “We are happy to open up on a Sunday to help in this vital work. The aim of Millie’s Mark is one we support at Pennies and we will be making an application for Millie’s Mark in the near future.”
