Nick and pals answer SOS call
Firms from Maidstone and Kings Hill donated their services for free as BBC’s DIY SOS team swooped into the county.
More than 100 traders and suppliers were involved in the major project on the Isle of Sheppey.
It was to help Garry and Kyle Ratcliffe, who have four adopted children, three with complex and life-limiting medical conditions.
Their three-bedroom bungalow, which had become unsuitable, was demolished and the team, including presenter Nick Knowles, returned to construct a new one.
Maidstone-based Ainsworth Civils & Engineering Ltd worked on the garden, put the driveway in and carried out some kitchen work.
Stephanie Chapman, of Stephanie Chapman Photography in Kings Hill, donated a one-hour shoot for the Ratcliffes so their new home would be decorated with family photos.
The show will be on BBC One next year.
