Football match in Scout’s memory

Teachers of a 12-year-old boy who died on a Scout trip will be taking on ex-profession­als in a charity football match in his name.

Maplesden Noakes pupil Charlie Girling had been in Finland for an internatio­nal convention, where he died suddenly on July 24. An investigat­ion into the cause of his death is continuing.

Richard Owen, head teacher at the Buckland Road school, said: “A lot of our students knew Charlie and have been very affected by his death, and we want to help where we can after such a tragedy.

“Our school is very much a community and Charlie’s family are still a part of that community.”

Money raised will go towards a memorial fund set up in the youngster’s name, which will benefit his 1st Aylesford Scout Group.

The match will take place from noon at the Gallagher Stadium in James Whatman Way on Friday, December 2. Charlie, erly. Its fines are £5 less than Maidstone, at £75, but the row could lead to a number being revoked.

A council spokesman said: “We will be having a meeting with Kingdom’s management and we understand that there have been a number of changes there recently.
