Shooting leads to drug charge

Police have charged a man with cannabis production after being called to a shooting that led them to a drugs factory in a village.

Officers were called to a property in Little Chart at 11.40pm on Friday after a man was shot and injured.

A man in his 40s suffered nonlife-threatening injuries and remains stable in hospital.

Police found 100 cannabis plants being grown in a nearby outbuilding at the scene.

Detectives said they had arrested a man and a woman in connection with the incident, and a 40-year-old man had been charged with production of the drug.

Craig Haines, of Little Chart, appeared by virtual link at Medway Magistrates’ Court and has been remanded in custody to appear at Canterbury Crown Court next month.

The woman arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply drugs has been released on police bail until December while inquiries continue.
