Council should listen to residents
I have been attending the Local Plan Inquiry by the government inspector at the Town Hall.
There have been some interesting presentations by officers, councillors, developers and members of the public.
The whole place came to life when MP for Faversham and Mid Kent Helen Whately spoke on behalf of residents.
For over 30 minutes she spoke from her heart on the various problems and difficulties the building of 18,560 houses in the borough would bring to her constituents.
She made her points with clarity and brevity.
She said a better balance could have been achieved between the need for housing and local constraints.
Mrs Whately felt Maidstone council should have taken into account its residents’ views.
Bravo Mrs Whately, what a pleasure to hear a politician standing up for their constituents. Eileen Riden, Sutton Valence (full address supplied)
