Happy birthday: Congratula­tions to Christina Caldwell who is celebratin­g her 90th birthday on Friday, October 29. Christina was born on the family farm in Ayrshire, came to farm in Kent with her husband and family and eventually found her way to Wateringbu­ry. She has retained her Scottish baking skills and still bakes a tasty cake. Poppy collection: House-to-house collectors will be out and about in the village in early November selling poppies in aid of the Royal British Legion, which helps ex service men and women. Service: On Sunday October 30 at 10am, the congregati­on of Wateringbu­ry church will go to Teston Church for a joint service. There will be no service in Wateringbu­ry that day. Shining Bright Party: School aged children are invited to the church on Monday October 31 from 5-7pm, to help celebrate All Saints Day. Wear your brightest clothes or jungle themed clothes/ dress up or party clothes. There will be a lot of fun at a non-scary Jungle Book themed party with games and activities, including the popular churchyard treasure hunt. Food and refreshmen­ts will be provided and lots of sweets and treats. Pre-school children welcome with a parent/carer. Philip Cockburn: Philip’s funeral is on Thursday, November 3 at 2pm in Maidstone Crematoriu­m. Philip had lived in the village for many year and served the community on the parish council being chairman for several years.
