Kent Messenger Maidstone

First for cancer support group

-

A breast cancer support group has marked its first anniversary.

The service, coordinated by Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, celebrated by holding an information day.

Living with Secondary Breast Cancer is run by national charity Breast Cancer Care and local charity, Breast Cancer Kent.

It is the county’s only group specifically for those living with secondary breast cancer.

They attend monthly meetings which feature a range of guest expert speakers, alongside activities such as mindfulness and relaxation techniques.

Carol Jackson, who has attended the group since its launch, said: “One year on, the group has achieved more than I ever expected.”

Claire Ryan, Macmillan nurse clinician, said: “We are delighted this resource has proven to be so beneficial to our patients.”

The anniversary meeting also introduced a new Macmillan support worker, Emily Parsons, to the group who will provide additional non-clinical support to patients affected by secondary breast and colorectal cancer.
