Midfielder’s return welcomed by saunders

- By Craig Tucker

Maidstone manager Jay Saunders hopes the sleepless nights are behind him as midfielder Joe Healy returns.

“We’ve missed him a lot. He’s got that know-how, he’s played the level, knows the level and how hard a league it is.

“He’s just got that calmness and sometimes you need that.”

Saunders wants to push on after storming back from 2- 0 and you go, ‘OK, we lost those four and then we’ve got Sutton away and Macclesfield at home’ and you think, ‘when’s an easy game coming?’

“I’ve not had much sleep the last few weeks. I was up from about half past four thinking about the team for Sutton.

“You do take it home with you but I’m like that when we’re winning, too. You never switch off as a manager – I don’t think you can afford to.”

Alex Flisher (back) should be fit to face Macclesfield as Stones look for only their second home win since promotion.

Saunders said: “We’ve just got to get them right for Saturday, work on a few things, make sure they’re physically right and then hopefully we can have a good go at Macclesfield and get three points.

“The support again at Sutton was outstanding and the lads and myself are desperate to get three points for the home crowd because they keep getting behind the boys and that’s much appreciated.”
