A singer is swapping country music for carols this winter to raise funds for a charity close to his heart.

Paul Day, who lives in Rectory Lane, Harrietsham, has created a festive album in aid of Hospice in the Weald.

The 38-year-old hopes to raise hundreds in memory of his mother, Val, who died there aged 67 in May. She had suffered with cancer and a stroke.

He said: “She adored Christmas and the joy it gave her family but particularly her grandchildren. My mum spent the last 48 hours of her life there. It is such an amazing place – very tranquil and supportive. The staff are fantastic.”

The album, produced in Ten21 studios in Bearsted, also features daughters Jessica, eight, and Phoebe, seven. Mr Day developed a love of singing from an early age and was a member of the Southern Cathedral Singers. His passion for modern country developed after a visit to Florida introduced the likes of Thomas Rhett, Eric Church, Brad Paisley and Brett Eldredge.

During the summer, he performed modern country gigs over the county but during the festive season expect all the Christmas classics and a bit of swing. Mr Day, who loves the music of Frank Sinatra, will open the grotto at Notcutts in Pembury on Sunday, November 20.

He will perform at many other venues around Maidstone and the Weald with dates and times to be confirmed.

Demos of the album can be found at www.mrpday.wix.com/ agiftforchristmas.
