Over the years these enterprisi­ng groups aided by their getaway driver friends and neighbours have shifted many tonnes of paper and card saving it from landfill sites and helping their groups to obtain new buildings. Have your waste paper and card ready for collection on your paths by 9am on Saturday, November 5, bagged, boxed or bundled. Just in case it is windy or wet overnight it would be appreciate­d if the waste is kept securely and dry. School has an open day on Thurs- day, November 17 from 9.30am. Meet the head, Mrs Crittenden and the rest of the staff and take a tour of the premises including the newly refurbishe­d classrooms. Entry is via Greenway which is off Queens Road. Bonfire night: The primary school, Belmont Close has organised a bonfire night with a barbecue, DJ and fire eaters on Friday, November 4. Gates open at 5.30pm for a 7pm start to the display. Entry costs £7. What a card: Christmas cards are a great way of keeping in touch with relatives and friends and a familiar scene is a definite bonus. St Margaret’s Church, often known as ‘The Church in the Fields’ is an obvious example and two colourful views of it are available. One shows the church in the snow while the other is a close-up of the door. Supplied with envelopes they are in packs of five with each pack costing £2.50, which goes to church funds.
