lester.gosbee@btinternet.com Halloween, the last day of October, turned out to be our warmest day of the month in places. On that day, both Frittenden and Goudhurst recorded a temperature of 20C (68F). The kaleidoscope of wonderful autumn leaves is arguably the best that this country has seen. It has been the driest October since 1951. I recorded just 85mm of rain in Frittenden during October, with many places having only a third or less of their average rainfall from July until October. I recorded just 85mm of rain in Frittenden during October. The average should be 245mm. The change of month to November has brought us a taste of colder weather.

The day will have a cold start with a local ground frost. Cloud will increase rapidly throughout the morning, and there will be some rain during the afternoon. The weather will be clear and cold overnight. Winds will be north westerly at 8-12mph, with temperatures at 11C (52F).

A cool northerly breeze of 10mph will bring us some cloud and the odd isolated shower on the north east coast but many places will miss them. There will also be some sunny spells after a cold frosty start. It will feel cold, with temperatures at 9C (48F).

The day will start with the sharpest frost since March 31, when temperatures fell to -1C (30F). It will be the sunniest day of the weekend. Winds will be northerly at 6-12mph with temperatures at just 7C (45F).

Low pressure to the north of the UK will feed us cold northerly or north easterly winds of 8-14mph, mixed with a few showers. Temperatures will be at 8-10C (46-50F), feeling quite raw in the wind. Time to dig out that warm coat. This winter will be much colder than the previous one.
