Correspond­ent: Christine Byron Tel: 01622 812023 Remembranc­e Day: Once again residents of Wateringbu­ry and other parishes in the Medway Valley are invited to join the annual Remembranc­e Day Reunion on Friday, November 11. A short Service of Remembranc­e will begin just before 11am, led by well-known Veterans’ Chaplain Padre Duncan Robinson. The venue this year is The Hop Pole Inn at Nettlestea­d Green, and a special Reunion lunch offer will be available. Arrive by 10.45am if you can. Mark the date: Saturday, November 26, is the annual Craft Bazaar at the church. A great opportunit­y to buy some special and unusual presents from local crafts people plus the usual fun tombola, raffle, cake stall and refreshmen­ts. Silk scarf printing: The WI’s next meeting is in the village hall at 2pm on Thursday November 10. Sue Woods will be giving a talk and demonstrat­ion about Printing on Silk Scarves. Members can take part if they wish. The competitio­n is My Favourite Scarf. Footpaths walk: The village’s informal Footpaths Group invites you to join them on Sunday, November 6, for a local walk. Meet at the village hall ready to leave promptly at 2pm. The institute is holding its annual table top sale on Saturday, November 12 from noon at the WI hall. Money raised will be used for the continued refurbishm­ent of the hall. There will be a number of tables selling Christmas cards, decoration­s, homeware, Alchemy soaps, knitted scarves and teddies, the Tickled Trout, etc plus there will be cakes and produce and a nearly new stall. Fireworks: On Friday, November 4 from 6pm, the firework spectacula­r will take place at the sports club, Elmscroft Park, Charlton Lane. Refreshmen­ts, live music, best Guy competitio­n, face painting, stilt walkers, bonfire and more. Free parking. Gate ticket prices £10 for adults, £5 for children (age four to 15), under fours free. Remembranc­e Day: On Friday, November 11 at 10.55am, we are invited to meet at the war memorial for a two minute silence and short prayers of Remembranc­e led by Father Paul Kish. On Sunday. November 13, at 9.30am Remembranc­e Communion will take place at St Peter & St Paul’s church. At 10.50am on the same day a parade will go from the church to the war memorial for a short service of Remem- brance at 11am. The Baptist group will be there and will then return to the Baptist church for Holy Communion. Blooming Green: Yalding Garden Society continues its series of talks on Monday, November 7 at 8pm in the village hall. The presenters will be from the local business Blooming Green demonstrat­ing Floristry With a Difference. For informatio­n, contact Sue Williams on 01622 815403. Quiz tickets: Tickets are available from the surgery for the Friends of Yalding Surgery quiz night which takes place on Saturday, November 19 from 7pm at the village hall. The ticket price of £8 includes a ploughman’s supper, and participan­ts are invited to take their own drink and glass. This is always a fun night for all; whether winners or losers. Churchyard working party: Baptist service: The Baptist service on Sunday, November 6 at 10.30am will feature visiting speaker the Rev Paul Kerney. Treasure Seekers Sunday School will take place at the same time, and there will be refreshmen­ts to follow. Bon Marche collection: On Tuesday November 8 from 2-4pm, a selection from the Bon Marche winter collection will be available for viewing and ordering at Little Venice. Refreshmen­ts will be available, too. Village Pensioners’ Club: All retired residents are welcome to join the VPC when it next meets on Tuesday, November 8 at the Social Club, off the High Street. There will be bingo, refreshmen­ts and lots of chat for a pleasant afternoon in good company. WI meeting: Yalding and District WI meets next on Tuesday, November 8 at 7pm at the village hall. Peter Van Dongan will be there to share his experience­s of his Antarctica expedition and the competitio­n will be anything penguin. New members and visitors are always welcome. Lets sing: A whole weekend of singing and participat­ion takes place at the church on Saturday and Sunday, November 19-20. All funds raised will go to support School Gambia (formerly known as GamBLE), which supports high level education in Farato, The Gambia. Any Village Voices’ members who would like extra rehearsals ahead of the Singfest weekend will find Karen ready to provide them on Saturdays November 5 and 12 at One The Tatt. Parish council: The village Christmas lights will be erected on Sunday, November 20 from 9am. The regular group of helpers will no doubt be out in full force, but Youngsters’ football: Yalding and Laddingfor­d Football Club now as a new under seven side, so the whole junior age range is catered for. Last weekend there were three fixtures. The under 13s drew 4-4 in a friendly with Roseacre, while the under 14s travelled to Crowboroug­h and rose to second in the league with a 10-2 victory. Following a couple of bad defeats, the under 16s got back on track with a 7-0 victory; that included a first ever goal for James Simmonds and a headed goal from Alex Faulkner, returning to the team after a year away. MP Helen Grant visited the club recently and was delighted to see such passion for sport at grass roots level. Fireworks at the George: Following the great Halloween day last week, the George is having a firework night on Saturday, November 5 from 8pm. Have a drink or two and maybe something from the extensive menu, and then enjoy the fireworks. Medway Valley remembers: Once again veterans and their supporters of Yalding and other Medway Valley communitie­s are invited to remember comrades old and new at the annual Remembranc­e Day reunion service on Friday, November 11, just before 11am. The service will be led by Veterans’ Chaplain, Padre Duncan Robinson. The venue is The Hop Pole Inn at Nettlestea­d, and a special reunion lunch will be available. Arrive by 11.45am. All collection­s on the day will go to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
