Pohiho hits brace in win

Sutton Valence 1sts won 4-2 at Gillingham Anchorians with a bare XI. They remain second in South League Regional Kent/Sussex 2, behind Brighton on goal difference. Valence were wary of Anchs’ new pitch – it will benefit from bedding in – but took the lead through Clayton Pohiho at a short corner. Anchorians had their moments and were a man up when Chris Back – caught out by the uneven pitch as he made a challenge – was sin-binned. Valence continued to press, though, and doubled their lead with another short-corner goal from Pohiho. Max Ife and a deft lob from Marcus Bawden completed the tally but Valence were disappointed to concede two soft goals. The 2nds beat Bexleyheath & Belvedere 1- 0 in Kent Open Premier A. Brett Angel eased through the defence for one of his best-ever goals. Sutton Valence 4ths are second in Kent Open Division 4 after a 4-3 over New Beccehamians. Rob Cockayne scored as the first half ended 1-1. Duncan Field made it 2-1 after a drive up the right, Alex Standford finished a short corner after Cockayne and Chris Sheldon linked, then Andrew Wishart made it four with a tap-in from a well-worked long corner before New Beccs pulled two back. Valence vets were short on numbers in the Surrey Conference. Opponents Chelmsford loaned a player while Rupert Humphrey agreed to play with a knee injury but lasted only 10 minutes. Valence were already three down by the time Humphrey went off. They pulled two goals back from short corners, the first deflected in by the loanee, with Andy McVarish adding the second.
