K Sports made a dream start at their redeveloped home ground.

A bigger-than-expected crowd of 341 turned out to see Sports beat FC Elmstead 4-1 on their new 3G pitch at Cobdown last Friday night.

Boss Kris Browning said: “It was the best night in the club’s history and just a massive occasion.

“We were hoping for 200-300 but ended up with 341 and it would have been even more but for the weather.”

Sports soon felt at home, with Caine Smith scoring after three minutes. Mike Russell doubled the lead eight minutes later, followed by a second for Smith.

Elmstead replied before half-time but Rob Norman made the points safe on 72 minutes.

Browning’s side are seventh in Division 1 of the Southern Counties East League after their homecoming. He said: “It’s so important to get that first win when you’ve got a new ground.

“Elmstead came to ruin the party, that’s what they set out to do but it was game over in 35 minutes.

“The lads enjoyed the 3G pitch. It’s similar to Maidstone’s. It runs true and you can play good football.”

Talking of Maidstone, Browning has appealed to their fans to make K Sports their second team.

Sports host Orpington tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm) and with Stones at Southport, there’s a chance to boost the crowd.

Browning said: “There were a lot of Maidstone fans there last Friday, lots of amber and black and it would be great to see them back when Maidstone are playing away. We could be their second team.”
