Taylor: We need to pick ourselves up for replay

-

Goalscorer Bobby-Joe Taylor has rallied his Maidstone team-mates after their late despair against Rochdale. The Stones will be up against Football League opposition again if they win their FA Cup first-round replay. They were the final ball out in Monday’s draw, pulling a trip to unbeaten League 2 side Carlisle in the second round. First, they have to get over the disappointment of conceding in the final seconds against Rochdale and somehow beat the League 1 high-fliers in their own backyard on Tuesday. Stones players took Rochdale’s free-kick equaliser badly but will have their heads up by the time they go to Spotland. Taylor, whose penalty looked set to send Maidstone through at the first attempt, said: “Whether it is a free-kick or not, to score last minute it’s just so disappointing. “We could have been in the next round but now we’ve got a replay. We just have to put on a performance there and hopefully get something. “It’s difficult, very difficult. We came in after the game and you could see everyone’s disappointment because we’ve worked so hard for 90 minutes. “I think we deserved to win because we dealt with them so well and when we did have a few chances, we looked quite good on the break. “Unfortunately, we didn’t take those and they scored last minute. It’s devastating but we aren’t out. “We’ve got to bounce back, take a positive that we’re still in it and we now can go to a League 1 side and try and get the result there.” It was looking good for Maidstone after Taylor’s 21stminute spot-kick, awarded for a foul on Jamar Loza. From the high of scoring came the agony of seeing Callum Camps’ injury-time free-kick beat Lee Worgan. Taylor said: “I give all the credit to Jamar for my goal because he’s run a long distance and won the penalty. “He’s good at that and thankfully I’ve tucked it away. “It was early on but it was a good feeling and it got us going a little bit. “It was disgusting when they scored. I don’t think it’s a free-kick but I’m not the ref, it’s not my decision and we would say that. “It’s killed us a little bit because we performed so well over 90 minutes. “We’ve got Southport to think about in the league first and then we’ll look forward to the replay.”
