Every day between December 2 and January 2. 39 Castle Road will be lit up from 5pm-9pm with shows taking place every half-hour. Drive up before the show starts and tune your radio to 106.1FM – it’s as simple as that. Get Together event: At the next Get Together meeting on Wednesday, November 30 from 2.30-4pm in the Baptist Church, Anna Perolls from the Hospice of Hope will give an informativ­e talk on the work of the hospice over the last 25 years. Hi Kent Clinic: The next free Hi Kent hearing aid aftercare clinic is on Wednesday, December 7 from 10-11.30am in the library. Clinics are run by trained volunteers who will be able to change batteries, clean and re-tube hearing aids free of charge while you wait. Silver Cross Youth Club: Members collected 12 rucksacks and items to put in them for the homeless of Maidstone. Club leader Marianna saw on social media the Maidstone project ‘#ForDaniel’ which memorialis­es Daniel Gauntlett, a rough sleeper who died in Aylesford, and asked the youth club to get involved. The club members did a great job, and they would like to thank their parents, friends and also support from people at St Nicholas Church. They hope that they have eased the plight of those unfortunat­e enough to be homeless at this time. Seasonal entertainm­ent, free skating rink, Polar Express train, Santa’s parlour, gift stalls. Admission: Adults £4.50 and children free. Concert: St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Aylesford, will be hosting its annual Christmas Brass Band Concert on Saturday, December 3 at 2.30pm. This is a popular start to the Christmas celebratio­ns. Messy fun: St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Aylesford, will be hosting a Messy Church on the first Friday of the month. The next will be on December 2 in the Brassey Centre, Station Road from 4.15pm-6.16pm. The whole family is welcome but children must be accompanie­d by an adult. Join in craft activities (relevant to the theme of the day), story time, singing, celebratio­n and sharing food. There is a charge of £1 per child to help cover costs. Festive fun for everyone is the slogan with games, a quiz, Photobox, tombola, nearly new stall, raffle, cakes, preserves and refreshmen­ts included. There will be no entry charge. Give a glimpse: The St Margaret’s Christmas cards are just right for friends and family. A choice of two colourful packs, a close-up of the church door and a view of the church when covered with snow, are available with envelopes; five to a pack at £2.50 per pack and sales all help church funds. The cards are available from the post office opposite The Bull, Thyme at the Lenon Tree and the Family Funeral Service in Beverley Road or from any committee member (Joan on 01622 727114 will tell you the nearest one). Shine on: The St Margaret Lantern Walk will be held on Sunday, December 11 starting from the village hall, Heath Road at 3.15pm with making them. The timetable allows meeting at 3.30pm in Church Cross House before making and walking. Powerless: Cuts in power usually occur when the weather takes a lurch for the worse. One thing that you can do now is to join the Priority Services Register at UK Power Networks. This company looks after the electricit­y network and offers free help and advice. Even the phone number for you to join is free – 0800 169 9970. Up to four: If you have a child up to four years of age and you fancy an occasional break, think of the St Andrew’s Tiddlers, Baby and Toddlers group. Sing-along: Audience participat­ion is invited at a Christmas Concert presented by local well-known group, Friends in Harmony in St Andrew’s Church Hall on Friday, December 2 from 7.30pm. Note the date is not the one given in The Barming Link. A wide variety of seasonal music carols and read- ings will be heard followed by refreshmen­ts. Admission is free. Instead there will be a retiring collection in favour of Headway, a charity specialisi­ng in disorders of the brain. Fair enough: Blackthorn Trust will hold a Christmas Fair on Saturday, November 26 from 10.30am–2.30pm. Stalls and live music will be to the fore with some cakes and lunch offered in the garden restaurant along with roasted chestnuts, competitio­ns and games. Coming soon will be workshops on wreath-making and table decoration­s. History society: Last week’s presentati­on was to have been A Gallop Through the History of Carriage Driving but unforeseen circumstan­ces forced a change. Stepping in was Peter Skinner who gave an interestin­g talk on Croydon Airport. Although it closed in 1959, the central building in Purley Way is still much as it was.
