McKimm lands loan defender

Tonbridge

-

Tonbridge have signed defender Mitchell Nelson on loan from Welling for a month. Angels needed a centre-half after releasing Jerrome Sobers last week, while Sonny Miles faces a shoulder operation at the start of December that’s set to sideline him for six to eight weeks. Boss Steve McKimm said: “Sonny’s got his operation coming up, so we needed cover at centre-half. “That’s where I see Mitchell’s best position and that’s where he wants to play. “Time will tell how he does. He’s not been playing at Welling and they made him available for a month. “If he does well in that time it might be that Welling call him back. We’ll have to see.” Angels have got their Ryman League, Premier Division campaign back on track by taking four points from the last two games. Early goals from Luke Blewden and Nathan Elder secured a 2-0 win at high-flying Needham Market on Saturday. They also led 2-0 against Merstham on Tuesday night, Alex Akrofi scoring on his home debut and Tom Phipp’s header going in off Merstham defender Tom Kavanagh. But the Moatsiders hit back in the second half and salvaged a 2-2 draw in the last minute. McKimm said: “We’ll get some of them this season where you think you’re going to win and then the opposition get you with a goal. “You lick your wounds but I do believe they even themselves out.” Tom Parkinson and Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson are due to return for Angels’ trip to in-form Enfield tomorrow (Saturday). That’s followed by Leiston away on Tuesday night, the teams drawing 2-2 in a top-of-thetable clash in the early weeks of the season. McKimm, whose side are eighth, said: “Enfield will be a tough game. They’re on a great run and pushing for the top six or seven but we go there with a strong squad. “Leiston’s another tough one and then we’ve got Bognor next Saturday. “They’re three massive games and if you can’t get up for these and enjoy them, there’s no point being in the top half of the league.” Loose Lions need coaches for their new junior teams. FA Level 1 coaching badge preferred but not essential. For more information, call chairman Darren Harvey on 07742 490131.
