‘Weak’ players are not hurting enough

-

Jay Saunders accused Maidstone players of accepting defeat and promised to make changes after their collapse against Woking. The manager was happy with Stones’ start but they fell apart in a 3- 0 defeat. He said: “I don’t know how much it hurts some of them in there and I just said that to them. “Changes have got to be made and sooner rather than later. “There’s players we like and if people have got to move out, that’s what we’ll do because I won’t accept it. I can’t accept it. It’s the most disappointed I’ve felt in six years as manager here.” Saunders added: “They know I’m right and that’s the thing. As a player, I’d have lost my head and gone through and smashed someone and I look at them and they’re letting things happen. “That’s the difference. It would have hurt me as a player, it hurts me as a manager and I just don’t think some of them understand that. “Whether they thought Woking would be an easy one because they’re lower in the league, I don’t know. “I thought for half-hour, 25 minutes, we were good. We started the game well and they couldn’t get near us but the first attack, it’s a goal and that’s us. We’re too weak and then mentally we just go a little bit.” Saunders wants players who are willing to fight to keep them out of trouble. He said: “At the moment, three or four are earning their shirts, the rest of them I could toss a coin on most positions. It’s never easy but I’d rather get players with maybe a little less ability but I know what I’m going to get out of them every week. “I’ve got some players with good ability here but I need six and sevens out of 10 every week, not an eight here and there and then a four because it’s no good to me.”
