Applications have opened for Maidstone’s next academy intake. Boys in Year 11 are invited to apply ahead of an opening evening and trial at the Gallagher Stadium on December 19. A two-year course, starting in September, sees students study for a BTEC sport diploma at Level 2 or 3 while playing for the club’s academy teams in the National League Youth Alliance. First-team manager Jay Saunders and player-coach Jamie Coyle are part of the academy’s coaching team, alongside Tom Parkinson and Jim Bodle. Saunders said: “Our set-up is unrivalled, with the boys doing their football and lessons here at the Gallagher. “We’ve already had a lot of interest for next September and that’s credit to the reputation the academy has built up in recent years and the success of the first team.” The course is delivered in partnership with MidKent College. Stones boss Jay Saunders said: “Tom’s one that we’ll look to get out on loan to get some games. “He’s found himself down the pecking order a little bit so we’ll have a look at that this week. “He started the season quite well but there were a couple of performances I felt were below par. “Tom’s another one, like I’m saying, I need people that are going to be consistent for me and I just felt there’s not been consistency with him, so he’s found himself out of it. “Maybe going to get a run of games will help with that.”
