FLISHER AGREES WITH BOSS ON TERRIBLE DISPLAY

- By Craig Tucker

Alex Flisher agreed with manager Jay Saunders’ criticism of Maidstone players.

The Stones boss spoke out after the 3- 0 defeat by Woking last weekend.

Flisher and his team-mates were determined to put things right against Dagenham on Tuesday night and played far better.

They lost 1- 0 but Flisher expects Maidstone to build on the performance.

He said: “Saturday was terrible. We all know we weren’t good enough.

“The workrate wasn’t there, the energy wasn’t there, the enthusiasm wasn’t there. “It’s difficult to say why. You could say we had a long week but

that’s not an excuse because got. The workrate was different gear, we kept going right to the end.

“We were unlucky but we can build on this and hopefully get some results coming our way soon.

“I don’t think we needed to speak about what Jay said as players.

“The first thing Jay always wants is workrate and we knew that wasn’t there Saturday.

“We had to put that right and credit to us, we worked hard and were just unlucky we didn’t get a clear-cut chance to get a goal.

“We had opportunities, I wasted one that I took way too early and put in the car park but it’ll come.

“You’ll get one that’ll come off someone’s backside and from there your luck changes.”

Flisher also had his say in the dressing room after the Woking game.

He led from the front against Dagenham and was Stones’ most vocal player.

He added: “After the game on Saturday, I said to the boys that we were too slow to do everything and we needed a bit of urgency.

“I just thought if someone could give us that, even from throw-ins, corners, it livens up the crowd, livens us up and the quicker you can do things, teams are out of place and you can get opportunities.

“Lee Worgan (captain) is at the other end to me so I can’t really hear him.

“For me and the midfielders, someone’s got to try and gear us up and I thought I could do that.”

Flisher is suspended for the trip to Lincoln tomorrow (Saturday) but returns for the home game against Eastleigh on Tuesday night.

Both sides are fighting for promotion but Flisher takes encouragement from the Dagenham display.

Stones are 18th in the National League, five points clear of the relegation zone.

Flisher said: “I haven’t actually looked at the table for a long time.

“I know we’re down there and we’ve got to start getting results to push us away from the bottom four but it’ll come.

“We’ve got a difficult couple of games but after the way we played against Dagenham, we’ve got a chance of getting some points from these next two.”
