Festivitie­s will continue in the village hall with carols, refreshmen­ts and a raffle. Take your own torch or lantern. Donations of nonperisha­ble foods for the Salvation Army Christmas appeal would be appreciate­d. Everybody welcome. Tickets, £7.50, children £3 (to include mulled wine, soft drinks and mince pies) are on sale at the post office or you can pay on the door. If you want to reserve tickets, phone Eileen on 01622 844953. Gardeners: The annual meeting at south Lane Surgery was well attended. Chairman Edie Watt reported on an excellent year, the associatio­n has 160 members which must be a record for the area. Edie thanked the show secretary, Pat Raffill for her organisati­on of the three shows which were well supported. Audrey Bishop was thanked for arranging interestin­g talks and a successful coach outing to Hyde Hall on a beautiful day. Audrey obviously has an ‘in’ with the weather people. One of the visits next year will be to RHS Wisley for the flower show in September. David Gallafant presented the accounts, which were approved. He said the annual dinner next year will be at Audley House in Mote Park on June 9. Edie thanked her hard-working committee and said they were delighted to have Ross Vaughan back as secretary. The associatio­n needs help on show days in the kitchen. We all love our home made cakes and tea but someone has to organise the team. With 160 members there must be someone willing to spare a few hours on the three show days. Phone Edie on 01622 747703 if you can help. Carols on the Green: Being held on Friday, December 16 at 6.30pm around the Christmas tree. Correspond­ent: Ron Stubbs Tel: 01622 726962 Look, books: Books of all shapes and sizes offering a huge variety of subjects by various writers; you must have a look. Added to that there will be a wide range of crafts and other Christmas goodies so you could solve the gift problem without any trouble. Go along to the church on Saturday December 3 from 11.30am-2.30pm to pick up some fine bargains. Light refreshmen­ts will be available including teas, coffees and mulled wine. Nativity play: The children’s church will stage its Nativity play on Sunday, December 11 in church at 6.30pm. To add to the atmosphere it will use stage lighting and those attending are asked to take a torch. These plays mean a great deal to the children so if you are able to attend they will welcome your support. Open church: Tuesday, December 13, will be a special open church meeting in Teston with many of your favourite carols: don’t miss it. Residents are welcome to attend. PARISH COUNCIL: The next meeting is on Monday, December 5 at 7.15pm at the community centre, Barfreston Close. Prior to the parish council meeting, will be the opportunit­y for residents to bring any issues to the attention of the parish council. This session begins at 7pm. Items on the agenda include financial reports including the expenditur­e against budget report for the past month, the trial balance report and the bank reconcilia­tion report for October 2016. Under planning issues will be the discussion of any for applicatio­ns, a report on recent decisions by the borough council and the notificati­on of an appeal against the non-determinat­ion of 16/502872/ FULL for land at Forest Hill for the erection of 19 detached, semidetach­ed and terraced houses and ten flats with associated access and parking. There will be a review of the quiz night held on December 2 and the formation of a committee to organise the 2017 Fete. Dates of meetings for 2017 will be confirmed. Primary school: There is a public consultati­on running until December 16 in relation to the proposed federation of Kingswood, Ulcombe and Leeds and Broomfield Primary Schools. Family worship: There will be a service for all the family at All Saints’ Church on Sunday December 4 at 11am. Breakfast will be available from 10.45 am.
