BOWLS: NO SWEAT – JUNIORS BENEFIT FROM NEW KIT

-

The juniors at Mote Park Indoor Bowls Club are all kitted out for success, thanks to some generous donations. The Kent Trust for Youth Sport, Kent Sport and Aylesford-based Gallagher Group have contributed a combined £1,300 and the money has been spent on upgrading kit that was up to 25-years-old. Junior co-ordinator Simon Austin (pictured) said: “The material the old shirts were made of was making the juniors sweat, so we applied to the Kent Youth Trust for a grant. “We’re a community club, open to everybody, and have space for up to 28 juniors. We still have eight or nine spaces and hold open days and go into schools so the trust could see we’re a progressive, forward-thinking club. We were awarded £750 and let the juniors submit 15 designs for our new shirt before choosing one.” With the shirts sorted, £300 from Kent Sport went to the cost of new trousers with the Gallagher Group donating £250 to help with equipment and competition fees – and the new look has not gone unnoticed by the senior players. Now the seniors have seen the design, they are keen to match up with the juniors for Kent League and national competitions,” said Simon. “The new design seems to have made the kids play better, too. They are a lot easier to bowl in.”

The juniors are in county two-wood triples action at Whiteoak this weekend. For information about junior bowls at Mote Park, call Simon on 07943 535184.
