DAME KELLY hoLMEs RECEIVEs LIFETIME AChIEVEMEN­T AWARD AT LoNDoN CEREMoNY

Kent’s Dame Kelly Holmes has been given a lifetime achievemen­t prize at the Pride of Sport awards. The former athlete from Hildenboro­ugh won double gold in the 800m and 1,500m at the Athens Olympics in 2004 and has also been honoured for her charity work. She set up the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust to help transform the lives of disadvanta­ged young people. The awards took place at Grosvenor House in London on Wednesday. Having retired in 2005, she played a lead role in the 2012 London Olympics before setting up and running the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust. The trust has worked with more than 300,000 youngsters and 70% of people on its flagship Get on Track programme were in employment, education or training by the time they completed it. Dame Kelly continues to be an inspiratio­n to young and old following her achievemen­ts on the track.
